Meet Your Coach
Mel Bell – Founder of The Training Room Brora
Mel Bell is the founder of The Training Room Brora, a boutique personal training studio in the Scottish Highlands specialising in personal training and strength training for women over 40.
After discovering the benefits of strength training in her own 40s, Mel became passionate about helping other women build strength, confidence and long-term health through supportive, personalised coaching.
Many of Mel’s clients are navigating midlife and menopause, and her coaching focuses on helping women stay strong, active and independent through this stage of life.
Mel’s Journey
Before offering personal training in Brora, Mel worked as a teacher and spent many years involved in sport and outdoor activity.
Her own fitness journey began just before turning 40, when she started strength training and quickly experienced the positive impact it had on both physical health and confidence.
Recognising how valuable this type of training could be for others, Mel retrained as a personal trainer and began working with clients locally in Brora.
The Beginning of The Training Room
The Training Room started modestly with small personal training sessions in a local hotel gym.
When the COVID pandemic closed many indoor training spaces, sessions moved outdoors to Brora beach. What began as a temporary solution soon developed into a supportive training community.
From beach sessions the business grew into a garden marquee gym, before eventually becoming the purpose-built cabin studio that now forms The Training Room Brora.
Today the studio provides a welcoming and private space where clients can build strength and confidence without the intimidation often associated with larger gyms.
Coaching Approach
Mel’s coaching focuses on building strength safely and progressively, with programmes tailored to each client’s ability, experience and lifestyle.
Many clients begin with little or no previous experience of strength training, so sessions are designed to be supportive, encouraging and achievable.
The goal is not quick fixes or extreme workouts, but creating sustainable habits that help clients stay strong and active for the long term.
Mel has a particular interest in supporting women through midlife and menopause, helping them understand how strength training can support bone health, muscle mass, energy levels and overall wellbeing.
Qualifications & Professional Training
Mel holds a number of professional fitness qualifications including:
• Level 3 Personal Trainer
• Level 3 Exercise Referral
